RETAVASE® (reteplase) is a recombinant plasminogen activator which catalyzes the cleavage of endogenous plasminogen to generate plasmin. Plasmin degrades the fibrin matrix of the thrombus, exerting its thrombolytic action.
dosing and administration
The only fixed-dose fibrinolytic for acute STEMI—no dosing calculations needed1
RETAVASE is supplied as 10 units of lyophilized powder in single-use vials for reconstitution, co‑packaged with Sterile Water for Injection, USP.
Watch how to reconstitute retavase
immediately before administration
Dosing and administration1
Two 10‑unit intravenous injections, 30 minutes apart, are each administered over 2 minutes.
- Start administration as soon as possible after the onset of STEMI
- Both 10‑unit IV injections are required for complete treatment
- No other medication should be injected or infused simultaneously via the same intravenous line or added to the injection solution
Reconstituting and preparing RETAVASE for use1
Reconstitute RETAVASE only with the supplied Sterile Water for Injection. Slight foaming upon reconstitution may occur; if necessary, allow the vial to stand undisturbed for several minutes to allow dissipation of any large bubbles. Prior to administration, inspect the product for particulate matter and discoloration. Solution should appear clear and colorless.2 Use aseptic technique throughout.
